0:47 I've unlocked a new yoga pose. This seems a bit odd. Aren't the major yoga poses well-known already? Why lock them up?
0:48 On to the part I've really been looking forward to: the Balance Games! Heading soccer balls feels a little imprecise -- my leanings don't show up on-screen very quickly. Still, I get two stars for my initial effort.
0:50 I figure out a way to cheat on my second soccer-heading attempt -- instead of leaning, I just lift the leg on the opposite side to seesaw my Mii over to the side. It's a testament to the game design that this is
still a good workout!
0:52 On to slalom skiing. I start out leaning way too far, alternating between sharp lefts and rights, but eventually I get some fine control. I finish the simple course in 47 seconds, including a seven-second penalty for a missed gate. I've gotta lean forward for more speed, I guess.
0:53 Try Two: More speed = more missed gates. 59.9 second total. Bleh.
0:54 On my third try I find the right balance (pun definitely intended) between speed and direction and get ranked at three stars! "Professional!" I could do this all day. But I won't.
0:56 The instructions for the Ski Jump are minimal: "Squat with knees bent" then "EXTEND and hold balance." I'm not exactly sure how to improve my form, but I still only get two stars. A little too simple, perhaps. Moving on.
1:00 The "Table Tilt" mini-game is FREAKY! My Mii falls into a screen-filled void -- like something out of "Tthe Matrix" -- then gets transformed into a ball with my face on it. Leaning my body tilts the playing field, and I have to navigate the ball into a hole. Like "Labyrinth" mixed with Twister. I get through seven stages before time runs out. I could really get in to this one.
Would I play this game for more than an hour? Yes.
Why? Weren't you reading? I have to lose 19 pounds in three months!
This column was based on a retail copy of the game provided by the publisher.
