The almighty "Ban Hammer" has been taken out of the display case over at Blizzard this week as the company combats bot use in
World of Warcraft. The mass bans are related to the popular bot program
Glider, which Blizzard has tried to "ban" in the real world with a lawsuit against creator Michael Donnelly. The
Glider program allows users to macro in the game, making it easy to level without actually playing. The software cost $25 to own and for an additional monthly subscription fee users can unlock more functionality in the program.
It is Blizzard's position that using programs like Glider violates the game's EULA. It is unknown how many users have actually been banned as a result of this latest sweep, but apparently it is quite a few if you believe the number of complaints and comments being posted on message boards all over the internet.
