Nintendo 3DS Details Revealed

in

Announced yesterday, the Nintendo 3DS will be released in Japan this coming February for the yen equivalent of $300 USD.

The 3DS box will include a charging stand, AC adapter, touch pen, 2GB SD memory card, and manuals. Its upper screen will be 3.53 inches wide with 3D support (with no need for glasses) and a 800x240 resolution (400 pixels per eye for 3D viewing), while the lower screen is just 3.02 inches wide and 320x240 pixels.

Arcania: Gothic 4 - Demo Impressions

Arcania front.jpg

Gothic 4 (Arcania now, I guess) has a lot to live up to. The Gothic series has been, to date, the best open world action RPG series that I've ever played. And yes, I've played them all. Gothic 1 and 2 set the bar very high for free form exploration, hard as hell combat, and "play it your way" mechanics. When you can attack anyone in the game, even allies, just because you want their 30 gold, you know you are playing a true "sandbox" game.

First Shot: Civilization V

Civilization releases are my "Jesus is born!" days. They demarcate the end of one era and the beginning of another. Also they are much more important than Jesus Christ (You heard me, god! Bring it!). They are not merely the launch of another new game, they are an event, like the Olympics, only they matter (You heard me Baron Pierre de Coubertin! Bring it!).

Preview: Blade Kitten

Recently, I had the chance to check out Atari and Krome's new game, Blade Kitten. Based on a webcomic, you play as the pink haired, cat...person(?), Kit Ballard as she hacks and slashes her way through hordes of future-soldiers and robots. The anime style is the first thing I noticed as the colors and "cuteness" factor will smack you in the face in the first five seconds.

First Shot: Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Building up in anticipation to Amnesia, I’d been hearing some pretty interesting things: the mood is just right, the atmosphere oozes creepiness, and most importantly, that the game is pants-shittingly scary.

APB’s shutting down after only 2 months or so (and yet Everquest 2 is still going somehow)

After launching only a month and a half ago, Realtime Worlds’ cops and robbers MMO APB will be shutting down. For the moment the servers are still up and running, but that may change soon.

First Shot: Shank

Shank

Watching the trailer for Shank, I knew that I was in for something different from the norm. Shank is presented as a hyperviolent stylized old-school beat ‘em up, a Double Dragon-type side scroller where the constant use of bats and knives led to actual bloodshed. I’m truly a sucker for retro-type games, and one of the things I’m consistently impressed with by modern developers is the ways in which they are consistently changing the form that became a cliche long ago.
