Nintendo Announces 3DS Launch Titles

in
3DS

With the release of the Nintendo 3DS only a little over a month away, more details are starting to emerge in regards to the launch games for the new handheld. Though we're sure the system will sell like gangbusters when the system is released, color us a little skeptical after browsing over the list of launch games. Unless you're dying for a new Pilotwings game (we sorta are...), even the first party launch titles are looking relatively thin for the Nintendo 3DS. Below are the list of 16 titles that will be released on launch day, though not all of them will be winners:

Kingdom Hearts Re:coded

Subtitle:
Digitally Enhanced With More Sora
thumbnail_summary:
The Kingdom Hearts series has always tackled adult philosophies with themes of light, darkness, and friendship featured prominently within its canon. Its multi-platform-spanning half sequels continue with Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, the DS remake of what was originally an episodic Japanese flip phone game. While it includes everything you’ve come to expect from the Square/Disney mash-up it contains a greater focus on the adventure and gameplay than the philosophies themselves. It also marks the first time we’ve had a Sora-centric game since the Game Boy Advance’s Chain of Memories in 2004 (and later its PS2 remake).

Sony Brings It With NGP, Nintendo Claims It's Already Been Broughten with 3DS

in
3DS

Only a month into the new year and 2011 already is shaping up to be a pretty exciting time for video games. With the end of the current generation of consoles still a few years away, the handheld market is quickly developing into a crowded field of challengers. 2010 saw a radically altered state to handheld gaming; the proliferation of smartphones and release of the iPad found gamers playing games on all-new consoles, while the previous handheld champion, the Nintendo DS, saw hardware and software sales decline.

First Shot: Kingdom Hearts Re:coded

After loving last year’s canonical Kingdom Hearts prequel, Birth By Sleep, on the PSP I’d recently tried my hand at 358/2 Days on the DS. Unfortunately, I barely had the drive to push through the highly repetitive and limiting gameplay of the Roxas-centric Kingdom Hearts II side story. I didn’t finish the game because of my dislike of the gameplay (though I’m told the story’s quite good), so I was hesitant to play another side story on the DS.
