Games for Lunch: The Political Machine 2008

In a nutshell: Becoming leader of the free world has never been so much fun.

0:53 Grant's bopping all over the map -- newspaper ads in Texas, fundraisers in California, HQ in Minnesota. I get tired just watching him! Stamina is much more important than I thought.

0:55 Giving a speech supporting Iraq withdrawal would lower my appeal to independents? Really? Do the developers know that 55 percent of the country now favors withdrawal? Bah.

0:57 I hire a spin doctor to pick up some rather anemic numbers in Iowa. Grant has taken an early nationwide lead, thanks to his additional hustle. I'm running low on funds, mainly due to the expensive New York ad. Using my resources effectively is going to take some practice.

Would I play this game for more than an hour? Maybe.

Why? I'm not a fan of the interface, the take on many issues or the oversimplified view of politics, but I'm fascinated by all of them just the same.

This column is based on a retail copy of the game provided by the publisher.
