0:13 I just noticed that my thermal energy meter is constantly counting down as I walk. So I guess that rules out excessive exploration, eh?
0:14 In another hangar now, a hive on the wall is spewing out some wispy, flying Akrid that look kind of like fish skeletons. They don't really seem to be attacking, just floating around waiting to be shot for their precious, precious thermal energy.
0:15 "Gale, you never mentioned that thing," a soldier says as a 10-story tall beetle-like Akrid bursts through the hangar wall. It freezes half my men in a cut scene. "Retreat! Wayne!" yells the other Vital Suit guy as I grab my gun.
0:16 I like how my character stumbles as the beetle smashes his carapace down on the ground. I don't like how I die immediately as soon as I brush up against the encroaching beetle's legs. Looks like discretion is the better part of valor, here.
0:17 Or maybe not. I try to retreat, but I'm stopped by an impassable wall. Am I missing something here?
0:18 I was missing something -- there's an alley to my left I can use to escape. The beetle follows, though, tearing down a wall to get to me. I do like the choking dust and the animation on the huge chunks of falling wall.
0:19 The beetle is using its ice breath to fill my area with huge icicles, but I can run right through them as if they were made of air. Odd.
0:20 I die for the fifth time to the beetle's advance. There's no where to escape to, and the bullets don't seem to do much of anything. Plus, the thing ignores everyone else and just chases me. Why am I so special?
0:22 I'm really at a loss here. I can't seem to find any weak points on this thing, or any way to escape its nonstop advance. At some point you'd think the game would help me out and just tell me what to do.
0:24 Oh, good lord. There's a small staircase on one of the hallways that I can go up to escape the hangar floor. Apparently my squad-mates had been gesturing for me to follow them up, but I was distracted by the carnage surrounding me. I maintain that this is not my fault, but I'm probably wrong.
0:26 My team and I run up a few stairways and down a few overhead corridors, stopping occasionally to shoot at the exposed green sections on the Beetle's side. They start glowing a bright red. Are these the weak points? I don't have time to find out, as the beetle charges our hallway and takes us all out.
0:28 This time I make it down the hallway to a garage full of Vital Suits. Hopping in, I find I can jump and hover and dash! Plus I have an awesome chainsaw arm. Yeehaw!
0:29 So the Vital Suit is awesome and all, but it eats up all my thermal energy in roughly 10 seconds. Perhaps this has something to do with my strategy of running straight into the beetle with my chainsaw arm. Seems the suit isn't nearly as indestructible as I thought.
0:31 Forget the saw, this time I use my dual Gatling guns to take out the weak points. The beetle eventually knocks me and the suit back, triggering a cut scene where I'm sitting helpless on the ground. Another suit comes in and protects me. It's the other Vital Suit guy from earlier, who is my dad, apparently. He gets crushed saving me and everything goes black. "The intruders in the dome have encountered the green eye," says a disembodied voice. "You should have played along. You had your chance. Now you die like dogs." What was that?
