Or Jessica Chobot on IGN. And you just KNOW that Chobot is a super bitch in real life, precisely because of all the unearned adulation.

    @Brian Mardiney

    ...
    I will destory you @_@

Kidding, kidding! Actually I think the Felicia Day thing is mainly that she's a cute freckled redhead, a good singer, a good violinist (she was accepted to go to Juilliard), and I like the writing she's done on The Guild. The whole gamer girl thing is just icing on the cake. ^^

On the other hand, I would say the exact same comments you have here if we were talking about any of the women over on G4. *sigh* WHY is Olivia Munn still on the Daily Show???

  • Review: Fallout: New Vegas   3 years 18 weeks ago

Ugh, Felicia Day. Another example of how you take a moderately attractive girl, throw her into the arena of nerds (gaming) and she suddenly becomes a god. The big fish in a small pond phenomenon. The same thing happens in game development studios. You have a ton of guys and 1 or 2 *average* looking women...what happens? Adoration approaching worship.

I'm sure Felicia Day is a nice person and all, but at the end of the day, she's just a red head that likes games. Whoopee. There are way more attractive women out there. There are way cooler women out there. But because every gamer WISHES he dated an above-average looking gaming girl, Felicia Day is some sort of icon. Grow up nerds!

Not picking on you Chase, you just happen to be the billionth person to express this fondness near me.

This is filled with multi-layered awesometasticalityliciousness.

  • Corpse Run 049: Layton's right hand... man   3 years 19 weeks ago

Clever. Good catch on the similar looks of Professor Layton and the Google Chrome private detective guy.

  • Mafia 2 - First Shot   3 years 19 weeks ago

I agree. It really annoys me when they try to make the game too much like a movie. Sometimes you just want to get straight into the action.

  • Corpse Run 048: And now for something completely random   3 years 19 weeks ago

It was super important to mention =P

  • Corpse Run 048: And now for something completely random   3 years 19 weeks ago

Alex, I just had to re-post your explanation of this comic. I took this text from your site verbatim:

"So let me get this straight. You're asking your readers to know that Mario Paint had a music program and have seen the movie Amadeus to get this strip?"

That's what the web producer at www.crispygamer.com had to say when I explained this strip to him yesterday. I considered my reply carefully, and ultimately said, "I demand a lot from my readers."

Now, on the off chance you haven't messed around with Mario Paint's music program or if you haven't seen a particular movie from 1984, consider today's comic strip as a golden opportunity to familiarize yourself with both.

Mario Paint had a ho-hum art program, but the thing I always played with when I was yonger was the music program, which allowed you to compose tunes on the console. Sure, the notes didn't sound like real instruments, but that hasn't stopped people today from making some sweet compositions.

And then there's Amadeus, which may or may not be my favorite movie of all time. If you don't have the time, or the awesome, to sit down and watch this movie, the particular scenes I'm refrencing can be found here (ending at 2:28) and here. However, if you do have some spare time, I highly recommed giving Amadeus a watch. It wont have the any action, or explosions, or anything like that, but what it does have is solid acting and a plot that while often comic, is also deeply haunting.

One last thing. I just wanted to give a shout out to Alex Stephenson of www.narcolepsyinc.com for linking Corpse Run in a newspost last week, it was much appreciated.

I hated that damn laughing dog! -_-

  • Undead Nightmare Trailer & Very Brief Impressions   3 years 20 weeks ago

I tried real hard to get into Red Dead Redemption. I loved the setting and the characters were somewhat interesting. But, I just could not get over the feeling that every quest still felt like the stale Grand Theft Auto formula: Go to red dot. Chase/kill the red dot.

I have to say though, I loved shooting crows with the revolver. It was as though I was playing a new-age updated Duck Hunt. And this time, if there was a dog, I could kill it.

    @tomster

Ppi refers to pixels per inch and helps measure the quality of a print while it is on screen. Dpi refers to dots per inch and also can be used to measure quality of a print. Honestly speaking, I've only done minimal work in digital photography but with what little Photoshop I know, I spent more time dealing with ppi than dpi.

If you're curious, this section in a wikipedia article on DPI might help clarify the definition.

Either way, dpi or ppi, her overall point in that section of Kira's review holds its meaning.

    is that 72ppi or 72dpi ?

    Thanks!

We want Nathan Fillion to be cast as Nathan Drake! Yes! NATHAN FILLION is the BEST choice to play Nathan Drake! He's got action hero written all over him, with the biceps to prove it. He's extremely handsome, bright, clever, sexy, hot, young and devilishly funny. And he wants this role as much as we want it for him!

It's his turn to be the next powerful leading man on the big screen. We Browncoats and Castillions are determined to get him up where he belongs, and keep him there. He has single-handedly transformed the term "geek" into "sexgod." He's an up-and-coming A-list movie star with muscle and heat and he's a-comin' to take over feature films! I feel it! Grab him while you can for the Uncharted franchise. Because he'll also make the best Indiana Jones when they re-boot those movies!!

In his campaign to be Nathan Drake, we Browncoats and Castillions rise up and firmly support our Captain Nathan Fillion!

If you follow the right path you're mostly okay, save for some boss fights that are tough, but wander off the correct path and you're gonna struggle. And potions are dropped, though not by every enemy. A small inventory bag adds to the challenge. I'll have more on that in my full review.

  • First Shot: Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light   3 years 21 weeks ago

Wait. Hold up. It's hard? Wow, I haven't played a Final Fantasy that was hard in years. The last one I can think of that actually gave me a challenge was some parts in Final Fantasy IV. VII, VIII, IX, X and XII were all jokes in terms of difficulty. And I still haven't played XIII yet.

I still contend the hardest Final Fantasy is the first one, Gurgu Volcano (Kary) and the Ice Cave really suck. And nothing is more frustrating than randomly stumbling into Warmech in the Sky Tower when on your way to Tiamat.

To me, the hard difficulty is good news. I may have to pick this one up.

I love Stardock and I really want to play this game, but the reviews have scared me off. Since you're waiting for it to be finished, I'll pretty much be waiting for your word on when to buy it. ^^

  • Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright. You heard me.   3 years 21 weeks ago

Wow, that is a fantastic idea. So simple too! A lawyer and a detective working together. I mean, the only slow parts of Pheonix Wright games were the exploring and searching for clues sections. But the puzzle side of Professor Layton remedies that. And the weaker part of Professor Layton games was always the overarching story, which is what Pheonix Wright excels at. This is a match made in heaven.

  • Square Enix may not want you to know how good or bad Final Fantasy 14 is until after they get your money.   3 years 22 weeks ago

I stopped giving MMORPGs a free ride after I played Star Wars: Galaxies from launch. 6 months of grinding, exploring and following every rumor in the hopes of unlocking a Jedi character slot. And then after 6 months they come out and admit that it was nearly impossible for anyone to become a Jedi and they had to patch it to make that even an option.

    ...

Or maybe it was Hellgate London. That one did suck quite alot and while they promised and promised that it would get better it never did. *sigh*.

  • Square Enix may not want you to know how good or bad Final Fantasy 14 is until after they get your money.   3 years 22 weeks ago

MMOs have gotten a pass since they started. People are totally willing to forgive the fact that the game utterly sucks (which is every MMO I've played, except maybe D&D online) because they happen to have friends who play. The fact is, if these games were singleplayer only, all of them would fail and fail miserably.

As for FF14, IGN reviewed it, saying it wasn't just bugs but actual deep design flaws, stuff that a few patches wasn't going to fix. That's a big "uh oh". They also didn't seem to wait before posting. I think if all the sites (or most, anyway) ignore that "threat" from Squareenix, it won't have any effect. What, is SE going to withhold review copies from the entire industry? The only people to suffer from that will be them, when their games are relegated to "We'll get around to reviewing those eventually" status.

I was actually surprised by how good this comic strip is so far. Each comic really made me laugh. I look forward to more. Pity it only updates once a month.

  • Arcania: Gothic 4 - Demo Impressions   3 years 23 weeks ago

Its good to see that there are more original Gothic series funs around.

Its a shame that after Gothic 2 and its expansion this series is getting seriously worse. I mean its like they are trying to destroy the game on purpose!

I am going to buy the game ofcourse just to give it a chance now that is going to be released in a few days, but I am not really excited about it. Minimap and "flashing lights" showing you where to go... Seriously whats wrong with them? Thats NOT Gothic... In an attempt to make the game accesible to ages 3+ they destroy it. I also read somewhere that they pretty much copied Risen's leveling- point spending system from their descriptions. Not even the joy of cooking on a pan is left and thats not even half of it...

I just wonder if any members of the team that created Gothic 4 has played Gothic I, II and NoR.

Anyways I guess we will find that out in a few days.

    Take care!
